Information systems for education

information systems development gear cogs icon

Our experience, including grade book systems, internal marketing systems and systems for delivering student progress to staff and students alike, have helped to improve student achievement and promote learners taking ownership of their results and progress.

To maintain data consistency, our systems are integrated to draw on your key existing data wherever possible. They are fully documented to ensure that your IT technical staff and in-house developers are able to integrate and support our systems on a day-to-day basis, reducing support overheads for you.

We welcome enquiries from organisations looking to become development partners.

Mozilla OpenBadges project

mozilla open badges we issue open badges logo

We support the OpenBadges project which promotes learner engagement and rewards student achievement and are keen to promote the use of this motivational tool. Learners who undertake one of our seminars get the chance to add an achievement badge to their Backpack which they can share with employers as evidence of achievement outside core courses. Our OpenBadges system can integrate with eLearning materials and popular VLEs such as Moodle to provide that capability and will support progression to further study or the workplace.

Virtual Learning Environments (VLE)

We have more than ten years of experience creating VLE courses so we understand how VLEs can provide added value to your courses. We can show you how you can get more out of tools within the VLE from course structure to interactive content and assessment, and checking that learning is taking place.

Education projects

Our lead developer worked with staff at a north-west college of Further Education to develop a custom grade book application using a web front end. The innovative system was developed to meet the exacting specifications of the teaching staff and exam board to record vocational grades and progress, including embedding meta data for auditing submissions to the database. This enabled teachers and course managers to have an overview of unit, group and individual progress. Students were also able to follow their own progress and use the information as part of a grade prediction calculation. Students responded well in-year to this increased awareness of their own performance and achievement improved as students took ownership of their progress. The underlying structure was later successfully migrated to the college’s Oracle server, the web front-end being further enhanced by the in-house team. Ultimately, the structure was integrated into the in-house SQL Server database with a new Angular/Bootstrap-based front-end reflecting the longevity and adaptability of the original design.
